I was recently asked if the This Generation Series of books would be enjoyable to people of different beliefs. My answer to that question is that these books are a fun read—and fun is FUN, regardless of a person’s particular belief system.
The question was born out of the fact that the books come from a decidedly Christian mindset. That having been said, they are full of mystery, action, creepy events, and lively characters. Let’s face it. A good read is just that: a good read. For Christians, these books provide a new twist on the fulfillment of prophecy. For non-Christians, they offer a worldview that speaks to alien life, societal change, consequences of personal choices, intrigue, mystery, and fast-paced action.
When I began this series, I had the opportunity to write it as a set of inspirational books. But given the nature of the characters and the plot line, I realized it was much more suited to a broader audience. Let’s face it. We are all trying to make sense of the world around us—and that is what the characters in these books are trying to do through an alternate view of post-WWII history that harkens to the curious mind. Curious minds belong to more than the Christians in our society.
More importantly, the characters grab hold of the reader. Their frailties and foibles are common to the human condition. The struggles within the families are those faced by people all over the world, every day. They just happen to be taking place against a backdrop of political intrigue and speculation about scientific advances not yet revealed to the world.
Rather than being tied to religious persuasion, I would say these books have been formulated to appeal to everyone who has a sense that things are not as they seem. If you have ever wondered what is behind the daily news; if you have ever wondered if there are powerbrokers out there trying to manipulate your opinion; if you have ever had the deep-down feeling that things just aren’t right and that the world is heading to a tipping point, then these books are for you. If you are someone who likes a good book—one that entertains and makes you think—then these books are for you. If you like surprises and the idea that you can’t predict the ending from the first page, then these books are for you. If you want characters that are so real they inhabit your dreams, then these books are for you.
To sum it up, these books are specifically formulated to inform and entertain. Some may like them more for the views expressed while others may like them more for the rollicking good time. Either way, they’re a fantastic investment of time and money. Give them a try!
